Night Without Rules

Projection Band and Hubbub

“Night Without Rules” was an improvisational audio-visual experience featuring the Projection Band and Hubbub Studios, curated by Ivan Mrsic. Held in the Auckland Old Folks Association Hall in Newton, this night of unruly sounds and visuals was not for the faint of heart.

We were invited by Ivan Mrsic to create a visual experience that would react to the sound of the band. Using Processing, we wrote a programme that created shapes in a 3 dimensional space in reaction to the sound input from a microphone. During the performance we controlled certain aspects of the programme such as the speed and type of shape that it created. This gave it a more human response to add to the direct response of the programme.
